It has been barely a week since Ghanaian gospel legend Yaw Sarpong passed on. Following his demise, details concerning what transpired before his sudden death have emerged.
Bishop JY Adu, the leader of the New Jerusalem Chapel, who is no stranger to Yaw Sarpong, has shared insights into the final days of the gospel musician. Bishop Adu had been taking care of Yaw Sarpong during his period of illness.
In a recent interview conducted on Adom TV and shared on TikTok on January 21, 2026, Bishop JY Adu revealed that while the gospel musician was under his care, his family took him away a day after news broke about the passing of Maame Tiwaa, a close associate of Yaw Sarpong.

According to Bishop JY Adu, he pleaded with the children of the late gospel musician not to take him away because he was not fully healed.
He explained that despite constant discussions with the family, they insisted on removing the late gospel musician from his care.
“When Tiwaa passed away on December 7, on December 8, the children of Yaw Sarpong came to my church and said they were taking their father away. I told them not to do that and even advised them that whoever was going to take care of him should come to my premises and do so, but they refused,” he said.
Bishop JY Adu additionally shared that the sister of the late gospel musician had built a house for Yaw Sarpong to stay in once he had fully recovered.
“Yaw Sarpong has a sister living abroad, and she has built a house for him to live in when he is healed. Even Maame Tiwaa, whose child lives in Germany, also had a house built for her to live in.
“So we were waiting for the perfect time for them to heal before letting them go. I even pleaded with the children not to take him away, but they refused. They took all his belongings away; it really pained me,” he added.
