On New Year’s Eve, the newly constructed auditorium of the Lighthouse Chapel in East Legon was packed with excitement when Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, joined the congregation for their 31st Watch Night Service.

The church described the Vice President’s visit as a “historic” occasion, as it was the first time a high-ranking government official has honored the congregation. Bishop Dag Heward Mills, the church’s founder and leader, led the service and warmly greeted Dr. Bawumia and his entourage.

“I am happy to announce the presence of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife,” said Bishop Heward Mills, amid deafening applause from the assembly. “I am overjoyed because this is the first time we have a President or Vice President.” “What a blessing!”

    Gratitude and Faith

Dr. Bawumia, the service’s Special Guest, began by wishing the congregation a happy New Year.

“Let me wish everyone a happy new year. “Let’s wish for greater and better and greater tidings this New Year,” he concluded, drawing roars of delight from the audience.

Reflecting on the recently finished elections, the Vice President thanked God for His blessings on himself and the nation. “We have gone through an election, and I want to thank God for His blessings to myself and to the country Ghana,” according to him.

Drawing on scripture, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the significance of thankfulness in all circumstances. “Thessalonians 5:18 instructs us to give thanks to God in all circumstances. And I have lasting faith in the Lord. And therefore, for what He has done for us, we are grateful,” he remarked.

He was optimistic about the future, saying, “I know and believe that God has a plan for me for greater and better days in the future.”

    Appreciation

The Vice President, accompanied by his wife Samira, thanked Bishop Heward Mills and the congregation for their gracious reception.

“I’d want to thank everyone for providing us the opportunity to wish you a happy new year. Dr. Bawumia concluded, “God bless you and God bless Ghana.”

The ceremony, which gathered Christians to pray and celebrate the arrival of 2025, was filled with both excitement and solemnity.
