Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars have rewarded their Muslim players with a special opportunity by sponsoring their trip to the holy city of Makkah to perform Umrah (the lesser Hajj).
The group, which included deputy captain Vincent Atingah and Yakubu Haqq, among others, returned to Accra on Saturday afternoon.
Their absence meant missing Gold Stars’ league opener against Bechem United at Dun’s Park.
However, coach Frimpong Manso’s side rose to the occasion, securing a convincing 2-0 victory to kick-start their title defence in style.
The players will now rejoin their teammates to prepare for their CAF Champions League preliminary qualifying round against Algerian side JS Kabylie this weekend.
