Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah, has expressed strong belief that Ghana’s Black Queens can win gold at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Black Queens have been drawn in Group D of the tournament, where they will face Cape Verde, Mali, and Cameroon. The competition, initially scheduled to begin this month, has been postponed due to hosting challenges, providing the team with additional time to prepare.

Speaking on Woezor TV’s The Arena, Krosbi Mensah highlighted the steady improvement of the national women’s team and maintained that their target remains unchanged.

She pointed to the team’s performances in Morocco last year and their recent match against England as evidence of the squad’s progress, despite the defeat in that encounter.

The 2026 WAFCON will now take place from July 25 to August 16. The tournament will also serve as a key qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
