Benjamin Asare conceded for the first time in six league games as Hearts of Oak were held to a 2-2 draw by Bibiani Gold Stars in Accra on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Hearts of Oak’s 2-2 draw has once again, sparked a debate about Ghana’s No.1 spot.
For most goalkeepers, conceding twice in a competitive game is hardly a headline news. But Asare’s case is different.
His emergence as the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper earlier this year has been one of the most discussed topics in Ghanaian football, and every goal he concedes now seems to come under the microscope.
The Hearts shot-stopper had started the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season in an imperious form, keeping five clean sheets in his opening five games.

That run came on the back of a near-perfect international start. Since making his Black Stars debut in March 2025, Asare has featured in six competitive matches, conceding just one goal while displacing more experienced options in the national setup.
So, when Gold Stars found the net twice on Sunday, social media exploded with divided opinions.
Among Hearts fans and Black Stars supporters alike, opinions remain sharply divided.
Some argue that Asare still has more work to do, insisting that his performances against relatively modest opposition in qualifiers should not cloud the bigger picture.
They believe Ghana will face tougher tests at the World Cup, and that Asare must continue improving if he is to hold his place on merit.
Others have defended him, pointing out that every goalkeeper concedes goals and that it is unrealistic to expect perfection.
They argue that even the best in Europe make mistakes and that Asare’s clean sheet record speaks for itself.
There is also a growing belief that Hearts’ defensive structure, rather than the goalkeeper, is to blame for the goals conceded against Gold Stars.
Still, the two goals have added fuel to an already simmering discussion.
In a country where goalkeepers are often judged by impossible standards, every performance from Asare now feels like an audition, not just for Hearts of Oak, but for Ghana.

That alone demonstrates how exceptional he is as a goalkeeper. To measure his performance by conceding only two goals after six games is remarkable. Which goalkeeper in Europe has accomplished this? Benjamin Asare, you are one of a kind—keep it up!

Bcos you and your colleague made being a good goalkeeper all about clean sheets

This shows a clear lack of swiftness in cutting back, you watched the two goals and he was much fixated at that corner of the post leaving the goalpost wide open. This us not the gk we need in the wc…its not about not conceding in 6 games but lacking that quality to be there

We do call out the foreign-based players when they perform below standard and cry out bitterly to assume the local players would do better, thus, “we’ve better players in our league than this or that player”.
I can’t believe we are waiting for a local player to fail badly. Aw!

As a goalkeeper, you are always at risk of conceding when your defense is exposed. You get clean sheets and perform well when your defense is strong. We are watching. 👀 😎

Even the great Petr cech conceded 5 at one point… The blackstars no1 shirt is his to lose, unless crooked okraku demands he pays to get selected.

Get a life….tell me which of our options doesn’t conceed goals? Even Tibout Courtois conceeds week in and week out .

Exactly but we shouldn’t make it a point every week to wait to discuss him
Since it might put pressure on him
At least we should free the gentleman to continue his work and it will pay off— SammieNhana (@NhanayawSammie) October 27, 2025
This goals one can’t blame the goalie for them…
The defenders shaaa paaa…..
