Benjamin Asare conceded for the first time in six league games as Hearts of Oak were held to a 2-2 draw by Bibiani Gold Stars in Accra on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Hearts of Oak’s 2-2 draw has once again, sparked a debate about Ghana’s No.1 spot.
For most goalkeepers, conceding twice in a competitive game is hardly a headline news. But Asare’s case is different.
His emergence as the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper earlier this year has been one of the most discussed topics in Ghanaian football, and every goal he concedes now seems to come under the microscope.
The Hearts shot-stopper had started the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season in an imperious form, keeping five clean sheets in his opening five games.

Among Hearts fans and Black Stars supporters alike, opinions remain sharply divided.
Some argue that Asare still has more work to do, insisting that his performances against relatively modest opposition in qualifiers should not cloud the bigger picture.
They believe Ghana will face tougher tests at the World Cup, and that Asare must continue improving if he is to hold his place on merit.
Others have defended him, pointing out that every goalkeeper concedes goals and that it is unrealistic to expect perfection.
They argue that even the best in Europe make mistakes and that Asare’s clean sheet record speaks for itself.
There is also a growing belief that Hearts’ defensive structure, rather than the goalkeeper, is to blame for the goals conceded against Gold Stars.
Still, the two goals have added fuel to an already simmering discussion.
