The New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Afenyo Markin has received a severe warning from Beatrice Annan, a well-known member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for what she called his “childish” behaviour.

In an interview with TV3 Ghana, Annan said he was becoming increasingly frustrated with the state of politics and Markin’s behaviour, implying that if he keeps going in this direction, the NDC will have to do things they would prefer not to do.

Reflecting on how the NPP’s strategy has changed since their 2020 loss, Annan attacked the party in her remarks for what she called “buga buga” methods.

“Ghanaians were not happy with this way of doing things,” she added, adding that the NDC’s impressive performance negates the necessity for the NPP’s dubious attempts to hold onto power.

Annan emphasised the value of lawfulness and peace while urging moderation within her own party. She did clarify, though, that the NDC would be forced to stand up for the people’s will if the NPP persisted in inciting disturbance. She warned Markin that his actions might force the NDC to take a stance, saying, “Self-defence is not wrong.”

Her comments highlight the escalating political tensions in Ghana as the NDC continues to solidify its dominance in the wake of the 2024 elections. The growing gap between the NPP and NDC is reflected in Annan’s warning.
