In the aftermath of the 2024 presidential elections, where Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) suffered a decisive loss to John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reactions have flooded in, offering varying perspectives on the vice president’s performance and the reasons behind his defeat.

One such reaction comes from Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, who argues that the Vice President’s loss should not be viewed as a reflection of his capabilities but rather as a result of unfortunate timing and circumstances beyond his control.

Speaking candidly in an interview, Aboagye acknowledged Bawumia’s immense potential, stating, “His capability, his ability, his level of innovation, and the fact that he is the leader this country needs are not in doubt.

But sometimes, you can find yourself in the right place at the wrong time.” For Aboagye, Dr. Bawumia’s loss is not a reflection of his leadership shortcomings but rather the culmination of forces beyond his control.

“Bawumia is essentially being punished for a lot of sins he did not commit,” Aboagye continued, suggesting that the vice president’s defeat was not due to any personal failings but a series of external factors that hindered his candidacy.

These factors, Aboagye argues, might include the political landscape, public sentiment, or events that unfolded during the election season, which ultimately worked against the NPP’s candidate.

In the 2024 election, Dr. Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes, which amounted to roughly 41.5% of the total valid votes cast.

His opponent, John Mahama, won a resounding victory with 6,328,397 votes, or around 56.6%, leaving Bawumia far behind.

The election results have sparked widespread debate, with many questioning whether the NPP’s defeat could have been avoided or if it was the inevitable outcome of the political dynamics leading up to the vote.

After the December 2024 polls, there have been security concerns across the country. Catch Etsey Atisu’s interview with security analyst, Adib Saani, on Election Desk on GhanaWeb TV below:
