At Kotoka International Airport’s (KIA) new E-GATE commissioning, a humorous occurrence happened when one of the gates did not open for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the protest. As soon as the incident was caught on camera, it went viral, and many internet users shared their amusement and made memes about it.

The system, which uses the Ghana Card for immigration clearance, was being walked through by Dr. Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate who led the push to install e-gates at KIA as part of Ghana’s digitization program.

The commissioning went smoothly in spite of the small issue, which was a step in the right direction toward modernizing airport operations. The vice president emphasized how crucial technology is to improving Ghanaians’ travel experiences and expediting procedures.

For travelers having Ghana Cards, the e-gates are anticipated to replace human immigration inspections, resulting in quicker and more effective airport access.

While some applauded the initiative, others couldn’t help but make light of the unanticipated technological glitch, which fueled the online commotion even more.
