Dr Mahamudu Bawumia pioneered Ghana’s medical drone service in 2019 Dr Mahamudu Bawumia pioneered Ghana’s medical drone service in 2019

When Ghana launched her innovative Zipline medical drone service in 2019, it was a rare global novelty changing medical delivery in the country.

With limited operational services in Rwanda, Ghana led by then Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, engaged the services of Zipline medical drone— a partnership which turned out to be the biggest drone medical delivery service in the world, gaining global plaudits.

With six centers making over 2000 daily delivery of essential medical supplies to remote villages, this innovation has resulted in massive transformation in Ghana’s health sector ensuring real-time air transport of medical supplies.

Interestingly, while Ghana launched this service six years ago, health officials in England, only last year, announced it was getting ready to launch its medical drone service.

Following this announcement, a CNN report has shared what it portrays as a fascinating medical drone delivery in London from a journey of 30 plus minutes to two minutes.

The CNN health report, described this as a “new way of delivering time-sensitive blood samples”.

What health officials in London are portraying as remarkable success, Ghana hassix years earlier achieved it on a national scale under the remarkable leadership of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
