Presidential Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections and former Minister for Education and Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has declared his support for the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, urging party delegates to vote massively for him in the upcoming flagbearer contest.
Addressing Regional and Constituency Executives of the party in the Western North Region at Sefwi Wiawso, Dr Prempeh said the future success of the party depends on rallying firmly behind a leader who has demonstrated competence, vision, and commitment to Ghana’s development.
According to him, Dr Bawumia is best positioned at this critical time to lead the NPP forward, deepen its development agenda, and secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
“A united party, firmly rallied behind the elephant, remains our greatest strength and the surest path to victory in 2028. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia represents continuity, innovation, and the clarity of leadership we need now,” he stated.
Dr Prempeh emphasized that the Vice President’s track record in economic management, digital transformation, and policy reforms makes him the most credible choice to unify the party and appeal to the broader Ghanaian electorate.

Beyond electoral mobilization, the former Education and Energy Minister made a strong call for peace-building and internal cohesion, urging delegates and party faithful to channel their energies into strengthening unity rather than internal division.
“This is not the time for discord. Our strength lies in unity. We must put our shoulders to the wheel, build peace within the party, and fight as one family for the future of the NPP and Ghana,” he urged.

He encouraged party executives to lead by example by promoting tolerance, dialogue, and cooperation at all levels, stressing that party unity is a strategic necessity, not an option.
Dr Prempeh reaffirmed his commitment to leadership in service, calling on delegates to act in the collective interest of the party and the nation as the NPP prepares for the next electoral cycle.
