Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is actively working to undermine his chances in the party’s upcoming presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Speaking to party supporters in the Okaikwei South Constituency, Dr. Bawumia claimed the NDC would prefer that delegates of the NPP vote for a different candidate, rather than endorse his bid to lead the party.
“Do you know that the NDC does not want you to vote for me in the primary, but instead for someone else? But why should a different party decide who becomes the candidate for your party?” he questioned.
Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence that delegates would not be influenced by external forces, stating his belief that constituents of Okaikwei South would vote based on the best interests of the NPP.
The NPP presidential primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026, is expected to be keenly contested by five aspirants: former Assin Central MP Ken Ohene Agyapong; Abetifi MP and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
