Miss Samanpiid is one of the highlights of the Samanpiid Festival, an annual celebration by the Kusaasi people of the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The festival unites the five district assemblies in the kingdom: Bawku Municipal, Bawku West, Binduri, Pusiga, and Garu-Tempani.
About the Samanpiid Festival
The Samanpiid Festival is a cultural event held annually in November or December. It is a time for the Kusaasi people to express gratitude to God and their ancestors for guidance, protection, and a successful farming season. The celebration features sacrifices, traditional dances, and discussions on social and developmental issues.
The festival serves as a platform to reflect on achievements, address challenges, and foster unity among the people. It also provides an opportunity for homecoming, bringing together chiefs, government officials, and members of the diaspora to reconnect with their roots.
The Role of Miss Samanpiid
Miss Samanpiid is a key activity during the festival, aimed at promoting cultural awareness, educating the youth, and showcasing the rich heritage of the Kusaasi people. This pageant is more than a beauty contest—it celebrates intelligence, tradition, and the cultural values of the Kusaug Traditional Area.
Congratulations to Atimah and all the contestants for their outstanding performances!
