Barker-Vormawor has vowed to support Abu Trica in his arrest over romance scam Barker-Vormawor has vowed to support Abu Trica in his arrest over romance scam

Lawyer and anti-corruption campaigner Oliver Barker-Vormawor has announced that his law firm has secured the release of the partner of embattled social media influencer Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, following her arrest.

The legal practitioner had earlier alleged that her detention was intended to put pressure on Abu Trica after his arrest over an alleged romance scam, even though she was not named in any extradition request.

In a social media post on December 12, 2025, he wrote: “Security operatives have detained the partner and mother of Abu Trica’s son. This is apparently to put pressure on him, even though the extradition request does not name her at all. Not acceptable!”

How the BBC reported Abu Trica’s arrest in Ghana

In a latest update, Barker-Vormawor said his team engaged several authorities to challenge the legality of the detention and eventually succeeded in securing her release.

He has threatened to sue the Narcotics Control Commission, describing the arrest as unlawful and an abuse that undermines the integrity of the institution.

“Yesterday, our law firm secured the release of Abu Trica’s partner and the mother of his son from custody. We intend to sue the Narcotics Control Commission for her unlawful arrest and abuse,” the lawyer wrote on his X page on December 14, 2025.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have disclosed that Abu Trica and his network allegedly used artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create fake online identities on social media and dating platforms, leading to his arrest.

According to the prosecutors, the group engaged victims in frequent online conversations, using AI tools to generate natural-sounding messages that made interactions appear authentic, even while managing multiple targets simultaneously.

Despite these allegations, the anti-corruption campaigner has offered to support Abu Trica in his legal challenges, arguing that if the country is unwilling to extradite former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta to face legal action, similar standards should apply in Abu Trica’s case.
