Spanish giants Barcelona have shown interest in Arsenal and Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey as they look for a replacement for Frenkie De Jong, whose future at the club appears uncertain.

Partey has only a few months remaining on his contract with Arsenal, and with the Gunners not eager to offer a renewal, he could leave the Emirates at the end of the 2024/25 season.

This situation has caught the eye of Barcelona, who are currently dealing with uncertainty surrounding De Jong’s future.

The Dutch international’s contract runs until the end of the 2025/26 season, but talks over a renewal have stalled, leaving Barcelona in a difficult position.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the lack of progress on a deal has caused the club to lose confidence in securing De Jong’s extension. If no agreement is reached soon, Barcelona may look to sell him in the summer of 2025.

Since joining Arsenal, Partey has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

Should De Jong leave, Barcelona is expected to target the 31-year-old Ghanaian as a potential replacement.

This season, Partey has made 17 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, registering two assists and scoring two goals, just one shy of his best-scoring tally in the competition.
