Marc Andre ter Stegen is under investigation over disciplinary issues

Barcelona goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, has been stripped of his captaincy by the club over issues relating to his discipline and mannerisms.

The club indicated that the decision was taken after they opened disciplinary proceedings into the player over certain actions that do not align with their values.

The Catalan club disclosed that the vice-captain, Ronald Araujo, will assume the role of substantive captain until the issues are resolved amicably.

“Barça removes Marc André ter Stegen from his role as team captain.

The decision follows disciplinary proceedings opened against Marc-André ter Stegen.

“During this period, the duties of first captain will be assumed by the current vice-captain, Ronald Araújo,” Fabrizio Romano shared on his X page on August 7, 2025.

Reports in Spain state that the club was not happy with how the player handled comments on the timing of his injury situation.

It was noted that the player’s utterances were having a negative effect on the team’s effort to register some players, especially the new signings.
