FC Barcelona have opted not to make Abdul Aziz Issah’s loan move permanent, bringing an end to the Ghanaian midfielder’s brief and largely quiet spell with the club.
The 19-year-old joined Barcelona Atlètic on loan from Dreams FC in September 2024 following an impressive campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, where he played a key role in helping the Ghanaian side reach the semi-finals.
His performances also earned him nominations for Young Player of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, and Goal of the Year at the 2024 CAF Awards.
Despite arriving with promise and training briefly under first-team coach Hansi Flick, Aziz Issah found limited opportunities in Spain.
He made just two appearances,16 minutes against Real Sociedad B and 10 minutes against Nàstic, before falling out of the squad entirely from November 2024, onward.
His absence from Barcelona Atlètic matchday squads continued even after a strong showing with the Ghana U-20 team at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where he played for the Black Satellites and was named Man of the Match in the win over Central African Republic.
With his loan deal expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season, Barcelona have chosen not to trigger the purchase clause.
While the club is reportedly open to helping the young midfielder continue his career in Europe, his time in Catalonia ends with more questions than answers.
Aziz Issah will now return to his parent club, Dreams FC, unless a new opportunity arises during the summer transfer window.
