The Ghanaian boxing fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Ernest Akushey, popularly known as Bahubali.

The 32-year-old boxer, who hailed from Chorkor, was reported dead on the morning of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, barely two weeks after sustaining heavy punches during a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Bahubali, known for his explosive style and loyal fan base across Chorkor, Mamprobi, Jamestown, Bukom, La, and Osu, was admired for his willingness to step into both the Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions depending on the challenge.

His death has left fans devastated, with questions lingering over the circumstances surrounding it.

In the wake of the tragedy, Abigail Lartey of GhanaWeb visited the family home, where she spoke with Lord Coleman, who identified himself as Bahubali’s promoter.

Although visibly shaken, Coleman broke his silence, stressing that it was still too early to make any definitive statements about the boxer’s passing.

“The family is yet to know the exact cause of death,” Coleman said.

For now, the boxing community mourns the loss of a fighter who brought excitement and raw energy every time he stepped into the ring.
