Ghanaian backing vocalist Yvonne Ohene-Djan, popularly known as SHE, became emotional during an appearance on Nana Ama McBrown’s Onua Showtime as the programme revisited her remarkable contribution to the country’s music industry.

SHE, regarded as one of Ghana’s influential backing vocalists, has contributed her voice to numerous hit songs by some of the country’s biggest musicians, including Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Ofori Amponsah, Kwabena Kwabena, Samini, Obour, Rex Omar, Mzbel, Becca, Castro, Kofi Nti and Nana Acheampong.

Her impressive catalogue also includes collaborations with Reggie Rockstone, Rocky Dawuni, KK Fosu, Lord Kenya, Bradez, R2Bees, Ohemaa Mercy, No Tribe and SP Kofi Sarpong, among many other prominent artistes.

During her appearance on Onua Showtime, host Nana Ama McBrown took SHE through a catalogue of songs she had worked on throughout her career.

As each song was mentioned, the audience joined in singing along, creating a powerful reminder of how deeply SHE’s voice has been woven into some of Ghana’s most popular musical works.

The moment became emotional for the veteran backing vocalist as she appeared overwhelmed by the scale of her contribution to Ghanaian music over several decades.

SHE reportedly began her career as a rapper before legendary Ghanaian music producer Jay Q discovered her exceptional vocal abilities in 1999. He subsequently guided her transition into backing vocals, where she eventually became one of the industry’s most sought-after voices.

Her work with legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba alone represents a significant portion of her career.

SHE contributed to more than 20 of Daddy Lumba’s songs, including Tokurom, Huhuuhu, Always Love U, Wabaso, Mesee Da, Nepa Hu Yehu, Awo, Agenda, B. Power, Ogyeboso, P.O.P, Angel and Sika.

In 2012, SHE revealed that she had worked on more than 100 songs. Subsequent reports have placed her overall contribution at more than 200 hit songs throughout her career.
