Popular Ghanaian music video director Awudu Musa, popularly known as Babs Direction, has called on local TV stations to shift their focus from foreign content and invest in original Ghanaian productions.

His comments come after popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye accused some Ghanaian TV stations of airing her movies without authorization.

Reacting to the controversy in a Twitter post on April 24, 2025, Babs Direction questioned why local TV stations prioritize foreign content over local productions.

“Why are our local TV stations more focused on broadcasting foreign movies, often dubbed in our local languages, instead of investing in original Ghanaian content?” he asked.

He urged collaboration between broadcasters and creatives to develop homegrown content that reflects Ghanaian culture and stories.

“Ghanaian TV stations should bring creatives together to discuss how to collaborate and create content for their platforms,” he added.

Babs Direction’s critique comes amid escalating tensions between Nigerian filmmakers and Ghanaian TV stations over alleged copyright infringement.

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye recently accused Ghanaian broadcasters of airing her movies without permission, sparking a regional debate on intellectual property rights.

Similar grievances have been raised by fellow Nollywood stars Omoni Oboli and Ruth Kadiri, who claim their works are routinely pirated by Ghanaian channels.

In response, Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Samuel Nartey George, and National Film Authority CEO Kafui Danku-Pitcher have pledged to address the issue, with Danku promising “definite actions” within weeks.
