Baba Jamal won the Ayawaso East NDC parliamentary primaries
Former High Commissioner of Ghana to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has spoken out for the first time following his recall by President John Dramani Mahama.
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, who is now the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency, denied allegations of vote-buying in party primaries held on February 7, 2026, which led to his recall.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Baba Jamal pledged his full cooperation with any investigation the party undertakes on the matter.

‘I wish to state categorically that I, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, have not engaged in any vote-buying or election malpractices, and I pledge to avail myself to assist the party in its investigation into the subject matter anytime,’ he said.
The former High Commissioner to Nigeria also expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the honour of serving Ghana in that capacity.
He also thanked the NDC members in Ayawaso East for entrusting him to lead them into the by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
‘I want to use this opportunity to thank the President for the honour done me and the opportunity to serve my country as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.’

‘Finally, I sincerely thank the NDC in Ayawaso East for the confidence reposed in me to lead them into the main by-elections scheduled for March 3, 2026,’ he said.
Meanwhile, the NDC has formed a three-member committee to investigate reports of widespread inducement and vote-buying during the primaries.
The committee is expected to submit its report on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries and the disqualification of any candidates found to have engaged in vote-buying.
