Professor Kobby Mensah, a political marketing strategist, has hit out at the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, alias NAPO, over what he considers to be derogatory remarks about boxers.
Professor Mensah’s fury was ignited by a statement from NAPO during an NPP rally in which he likened the behaviour of some MPs on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to boxers.
In NAPO’s view, the conduct of the MPs was condemnable and unbefitting of people of their standing in society.
He listed a number of government policies and bills that are being held up due to the indefinite suspension of Parliament.
“NDC cannot go to the ballot box and win elections, so they started fighting in Parliament. Even supposedly sensible people were threatening to beat people who would sit on their chairs. If we wanted to be boxers, we would have gone to the boxing ring. Parliament is for sensible people, not for boxers. We don’t go to Parliament to fight. We go to Parliament to think for the country,” he said.
Reacting to the statement on social media, Professor Kobby Mensah implied that the statement is demeaning.
“Boxers aren’t sensible people. I definitely think Azumah Nelson, the professor of boxing, has an IQ level far outweighing what we are seeing,” he said.
