The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Jordan Ayew, Gideon Mensah, Alidu Seidu, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will miss the final group game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger due to injuries.

A statement from the GFA revealed that Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah, who had undergone late fitness tests before the Angola game, have been deemed unfit after post-match medical assessments.

Meanwhile, Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku sustained injuries during the Angola match, with Ayew’s MRI scans revealing significant knee issues and Issahaku being forced off in the first half.

Following consultations between Dr. Prince Pambo, the Black Stars’ head of medical services, and Leicester City’s medical team, both Ayew and Issahaku are set to return to their respective clubs on Sunday to begin rehabilitation.

Ghana’s hopes for AFCON 2025 qualification were dashed after a 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday.

The result leaves the Black Stars fourth in Group F with just three points after five games, eliminating their chances of progressing.

With Ghana currently at the bottom of the group, the match against Niger holds no competitive significance.

This development marks a historic low for the Black Stars, as they will miss the AFCON tournament for the first time in 21 years. The team will hold their final training session on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
