Mohammed Rahmne, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ayawaso East Chairman, has urged candidates and voters across the political divide in the upcoming by-elections at Ayawaso to let peace prevail as they go to the polls on Tuesday.

He said though the elections would be keenly contested to secure a clear majority from voters, Ghana must be the ultimate winner.

To this end, he has asked all players and stakeholders in the election to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that the constituency has always been known for during high-staked elections.

Rahmne in an interview with the Ghana News Agency urged voters to come out in their numbers and vote massively for the NDC candidate, Mr Baba Jamal to enable the party to continue its developmental agenda without undue interruption and potential sabotage.

According to him, all Ghanaians could bear testimony of the satisfactory work of the current government, adding that a vote for any opposition party would be a drawback and a reversal of development fortunes in the constituency.

He said though it was God who installs leaders, he was hopeful of the party retaining its seat to secure the opportunity to fully implement its development programmes for the good people of Ayawaso East.

He thanked the people of Ayawaso East, including candidates and delegates for their contribution to the peaceful conduct of the recent internal primaries.

Rahmne urged all potential voters to rally behind the NDC candidate to ensure that the constituency benefits from the outlined development agenda of the party, government, and winning candidate.

He indicated that elections in the constituency had always been peaceful and incident- free despite the negative tag sometimes, adding that the constituency would live up to that admirable reputation come the defining day.

He described the demise of the late MP as a big loss to the party, and that his calm disposition and peaceful nature should symbolize and reinforce the cloud of peace and unity hanging over the people of the constituency.

The Chairman expressed strong aversion to the practice of vote-buying and vote-selling in democratic practice and that it was important the people voted out of their own freewill without inducement.

He said the party at the constituency level would jealously monitor and implement measures adopted at the national level against such practices.
