Following a directive by the Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana (ADUG) for car dealers to reduce vehicle prices by 15 percent to reflect the current strength of the cedi and broader economic gains, some dealers say prices had already declined prior to the directive.

According to the dealers, they adjusted their prices in 2025 as the cedi gained momentum against the US dollar.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb Business on February 17, 2026, one dealer said car prices currently on the market have reduced significantly.

Car dealers declare a 15% price cut for their vehicles.

He explained that the Toyota Vitz, which previously sold for GH¢25,000, had risen to about GH¢100,000 in recent years.

He added that due to the current economic stabilisation, the price of the Vitz has now reduced by more than 15 percent.

“Mahama is a listening president. During Nana Addo’s time, I was interviewed and said the Toyota Vitz was GH¢25,000, but it later rose to over GH¢100,000. After Mahama came, the prices of those cars reduced, so we have seen the impact of his policies. However, Chinese cars are not helpful. These vehicles have no warehouse or service centres in the country, making repairs very challenging when they develop faults,” he said.

The dealers expressed strong support for the price reduction, noting that it is already being implemented across the market.
