Australia’s worst female serial killer has defended her decision to continue babysitting years after murdering three infants in her care, insisting she has done nothing wrong.

Helen Moore, once dubbed the babysitter killer, has spoken publicly for the first time after it emerged she has allegedly had neighbours’ children stay for sleepovers while concealing her horrific past from the families who trusted her.

Despite the shock and outrage, Moore maintains she was entitled to resume life as normal after her release from jail and claims she is now being unfairly targeted.

‘Anything to do with children now is irrelevant. All my supervision is complete,’ she told the Daily Mail.

‘It shouldn’t concern anybody what I do. All this was 45 years ago. Ancient history.

‘And because I’m the one with the criminal record, it’s always the easiest path to believe anyone else but me.’

Moore was still a teenager when she smothered babies as they slept in their cots in the western Sydney suburb of Claymore.

The crimes were initially dismissed as mysterious cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), often called cot death, which is sudden, unexplained death of a child under one year old.

For two years the deaths went undetected until police were finally called in and Moore made a full confession.

She received three life sentences for murder and a further 10 years for two attempted murders, but served just 13 years behind bars.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail revealed Moore, now 63, has changed her name and is living in Lake Haven on the NSW Central Coast among neighbours who allegedly had no idea of her horrific past.

Her brother Craig Moorley spoke publicly for the first time, warning the community and claiming his sister has been allowed to care for children again, despite strict prohibition orders imposed when she was released.

‘People don’t know what she did and they deserve to because she is evil,’ he said.

‘She is Australia’s worst female serial killer and she is just going about her life having kids at her house for sleepovers.’

Moore has hit back, accusing her brother of waging a personal vendetta against her, claiming: ‘He has always disliked me.’

‘What I wonder is why it has taken him 32 years to bring all this up? Why didn’t he do this when I was first released? He has issues with me and this proves it.’

Moore, who now calls herself Helen Anderson, began her killing spree after the death of her 14-month-old baby brother Andrew in March 1979, from what was believed to be SIDS.

This week, Moore told the Daily Mail she was mentally unstable at the time and has spent decades trying to rebuild her life.

‘I was young. I was very mentally unstable due to the death of Andrew,’ she said.

‘I have worked damn hard for 45 years to be a good person.

‘I don’t even have a speeding ticket or a parking fine. My record since release should speak for itself but no one cares.’

At the time, relatives believed the teenager was consumed by grief, blaming herself because she had been caring for the toddler at the time.

Mr Moorley was just 13 and vividly recalls pulling the limp baby from his cot and desperately attempting mouth-to-mouth.

‘I didn’t know what I was doing,’ he said. ‘I was just a kid and I thought I had done it wrong and that is why he died.

‘Our parents were at the club. It was just us at home. She was supposed to be looking after us.’

Andrew’s death was ruled SIDS, but Mr Moorley is pushing for the case to be reopened.

‘I was never interviewed properly,’ he said. ‘I wasn’t allowed to answer their questions, that is what her lawyer said, but I can now.’

Moore denies avoiding responsibility, insisting the justice system was fully aware of her actions.

‘I didn’t sentence myself,’ she said.

‘A real-life judge sentenced me and he knew all the facts of the case.’

After Andrew’s death, Moore began offering to babysit for family and friends. Loved ones believed she was seeking comfort by surrounding herself with children.

In reality, police said she was hunting her next victims.

Despite the mounting deaths, police were not notified and no investigation was launched

Just weeks later, a 16-month-old relative, who cannot be named for legal reasons, died from suspected SIDS after Moore had been alone with the child.

On January 16, 1980, Moore smothered a 12-month-old boy, leaving him fighting for his life before casually returning to watch television.

When the child later cried, astonishingly still alive, she called an ambulance and played the distraught babysitter.

The toddler survived but just two weeks later Moore was caring for a two-year-old girl who was smothered to death.

Despite the mounting deaths, police were not notified and no investigation was launched.

On February 1 that year, another two-year-old boy was suffocated with a pillow. He survived but was left permanently blind and unable to walk.

Two years later he died as a result of the injuries inflicted by his teenage babysitter.

Authorities only became suspicious after Moore, then 18, launched a final brutal attack on a seven-year-old relative.

The boy fought desperately but Moore overpowered him, strangling and suffocating him before throwing his body down the stairs.

She calmly showered, then phoned police.

Years later, Moore has again been thrust into the spotlight after it emerged she had allegedly been babysitting for neighbours without disclosing her past.

But she has insisted that this was no one else’s business, and that the renewed attention has left her fearing for her safety.

‘People are hurting when this happens,’ she said.

‘I have a daughter who is affected too, not just me.

‘I’m sorry it all happened but I can’t undo it. I have to live with it forever.

‘Death threats are already out there. The threats are so bad I can’t leave the house,’ she said.

However, Mr Moorley said he will continue to warn the public about her violent past.

‘I don’t care what she says,’ he said.

‘If she just left jail and lived her life then that would be that, but she is putting herself around children.

‘She is babysitting, she had foster kids sleep over at her house and no one knew who she was.

‘She may not want to tell them but I will because I lived it and I have seen what she is capable of.’

Mr Moorley has since reported his sister to police for historic child abuse in the hope she will go back to jail.

‘She tortured me for years, pulling chunks of hair out, beating me and my brothers.

‘I won’t stop until she is back behind bars or dead.’

But Moore has told the Daily Mail the historic child abuse was against her, adding: ‘I had both brothers gang up on me many times.’

NSW Police have confirmed they are investigating her brother’s claims.
