A Melbourne DoorDash driver has gone viral after revealing the unusually short distance he travelled to deliver a McDonald’s order.

In a video shared online, the driver said the drop-off point was just 80m from the restaurant, a trip he jokingly described in the caption as an ‘egregious misuse of the DoorDash product’.

Despite the pitiful distance, the job still paid $10.26.

The clip drew a flurry of reactions, with many current and former delivery workers admitting they’d experienced similar situations.

‘We deliver and we don’t judge,’ one person wrote.

Another confessed, ‘I mean… we’ve all done it.’

Plenty of commenters offered theories on why someone might order food for such a short distance.

‘They could be working from home, have a sick child, be babysitting, healing from an operation, a million different reasons. That’s what your service is for,’ one said.

‘They might have a disability and not be able to make that distance. They might be incredibly hungover or sick,’ another added.

One particularly heartfelt reply shared a deeply personal reason.

‘You never know what the person is going through. I lost a baby to SIDS. I can’t even walk out to check my mail. Seeing babies in my non-safe places, I cry like a crazy lady.’

Others said they simply just liked the convenience.

‘Sometimes you just don’t want to leave the house,’ one person said.

Another speculated, ‘Probably a mum with a baby asleep. Can’t just leave them unfortunately’.

One commenter admitted they’d been in the same position themselves: ‘I have a Maccas and a few other eateries a two-minute walk away. Doesn’t stop me from getting Uber Eats.’

The driver themselves made it clear there were no hard feelings about the job, quite the opposite.

‘I wish every delivery was like this,’ they wrote.

In 2023, DoorDash’s End of Year Trend Report revealed the shortest delivery completed by one of its drivers that year was just 100 metres, meaning this Melbourne McDonald’s run may have set a new personal best.
