Ghana midfielder Augustine Boakye is unlikely to join the Black Stars for their international friendly against Mexico despite being named in coach Carlos Queiroz’s squad.
The 24-year-old is expected to remain in France as Saint-Étienne prepare for their crucial Ligue 1 playoff campaign which begins on Tuesday.
Boakye has become an important figure for the Greens and the club are keen to have him available as they fight for an immediate return to the French topflight.
The Ghanaian midfielder has enjoyed an impressive season with Saint-Étienne, contributing six goals and nine assists in all competitions.
His performances this season earned him a place in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming friendly against Mexico as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, with Saint-Étienne’s season still active, it now appears unlikely that Boakye will make the trip to join the Black Stars camp.
Ghana will face Mexico on Friday, May 22, 2026.
