Former Ghana U-20 midfielder Augustine Boakye has revealed that his mother is a staunch fan of Sulley Muntari.

According to Boakye, he made the former Black Stars midfielder his idol due to his mother’s love for the ex-AC Milan star.

He said Sulley’s passion, trademark long-range goals, and ambition were his favourite traits of the former footballer.

“Sulley Muntari was my idol growing up because my mum loved him so much. I watched him and also fell in love with his style. His passion and ambition stood out. Also, I loved his long-range goals and how he fought for Ghana whenever he played. Even in Europe, he paved the way for young ones like me,” he told Flashscore.

Augustine Boakye dreams of following Muntari’s career path, which includes playing for the Black Stars.

“I’m from Ghana, so it would be a dream to play for the country, but I am not going to force it and say I have to play in the national team,” he said.

The 23-year-old currently plays for Saint-Étienne in the French Ligue 1. He joined the French side after a successful three-year spell with Wolfsberger AC in Austria.
