Atlético Madrid are the latest Spanish club to show interest in Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Arsenal star’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and the English giants are yet to offer him a new contract.
Despite his outstanding performances for the club this season, the Gunners have been reluctant to offer him a new deal, allowing other teams to express interest in the 31-year-old.
Partey could reunite with his former coach and club, Atlético Madrid, this summer, as the Spanish giants make efforts to bring him back.
According to Spanish media outlet Marca, Atlético Madrid are eager to make a move for the Ghanaian and build next season’s team around him. It is also believed that the club will offer him an improved contract should he decide to leave Arsenal.
The experienced midfielder left Los Rojiblancos in 2020 after the club failed to improve his contract, prompting a move to Arsenal.
Despite the disappointment of his departure, Atlético will take inspiration from former players like Antoine Griezmann and Filipe Luís, who left and returned to make history under Diego Simeone.
This season, Partey has scored four Premier League goals and was in superb form during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid.
