The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare has called for the inclusion of more local players in the Black Stars.

The former Deputy Finance minister is of the view that this will make the national team stronger especially following the big statement made by Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare in the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification games.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Abena Osei Asare said, “We are calling on NSA, GFA, and the Minister of Sports to ensure we see a lot of the local players in the Black Stars.”

The Black Stars have brought a lot of happiness to Ghanaians following the big wins against Chad and Madagascar in the March international break.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was in the post for both games and impressed many people with back-to-back clean sheets.

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper was one of just three local players in the Black Stars squad for the two games.

Besides Abena Osei Asare, many Ghanaians are calling for opportunities to be given to more local players in the next national team assignment.
