At least two people have been injured after a gunman opened fire at a busy Silicon Valley mall on Black Friday.

Terrified shoppers ran for cover as chaos erupted at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in West San Jose, California, police announced just after 6 pm local time.

The two victims sustained gunshot wounds and have been taken to the hospital. Their condition remains unclear.

Police have urged community members to stay away from the mall as officers investigate, authorities said in a statement.

Just after 6:30 pm local time, cops said the situation was no longer active and appeared to be an isolated incident.

Officers are continuing to clear out the mall and said there is ‘no ongoing threat to public safety.’

Witnesses from within the mall have recounted the horror online, with many saying that they were terrified while being trapped in stores when authorities issued a lockdown.

Bone-chilling footage shows shoppers evacuating a shop they had all crammed into for safety amid the gunfire.

More dramatic video from the scene captured shoppers fleeing the mall for safety, flooding the sidewalks as they quickly moved away from the shopping center.

Emergency vehicles and first responders swarmed the area.

An image from inside the mall depicting the aftermath of the shooting shows a storefront’s window shattered by a bullet.

A man claiming to be inside when bullets rang recalled hearing at least 15 shots fired.

The Westfield Valley Mall, commonly known as Valley Fair Mall, opened its doors in 1986.

It has more than 200 stores and nearly 70 dining options. It is also home to an escape room and a bowling alley, making it a popular location for families.

    This is a developing story…
