The Asuogyaman National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has marked Ghana’s 33 years of constitutional democracy with a civic education campaign through field outreaches.

The Commission’s Annual Constitution Week is a flagship program that commemorates the acceptance of the 1992 Constitution as the fundamental law of the Republic of Ghana.

In an interview with Kobby Kyei News, Mr. Alexander Yiadom Boakye, Asuogyaman NCCE Director, appealed to Ghanaians, especially the youth, to never wish for military takeovers as an option against democratic rule.

He acknowledged the challenges facing the country, including unemployment, corruption and poor delivery of services by some public institutions.

However, he emphasized that the gains of 33 years of constitutional democracy far outweigh the dark ages of Ghana’s unconstitutional rule from 1960-1980.

Mr. Boakye encouraged the youth to actively participate in democratic governance by holding duty bearers accountable through the ballot box, civic pressure, advocacy and lawful protest.

During an open-broadcast sensitization at Akosombo market center, key member of the commission, Ms. Emelda N. A. Amankwa encouraged the public to live in peace and harmony with each other, as stipulated in Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

She advised the public to report any form of wrongful acts or crimes to the appropriate authorities, such as the Police or CHRAJ.

Ms. Amankwa also emphasized the importance of paying taxes, stating that it is not evil but a means for nation-building.

She encouraged the public to fulfill their tax obligations to contribute to the development of the country.

The Asuogyaman NCCE office plans to engage with Okada riders, other identifiable groups, security agencies, and faith-based organizations during the 2025 Annual Constitution Weeklong celebrations.

The office has already visited various market centers, lorry stations, and youth groups within the district, including God’s Gift Metal & Fabrication Works-Mangoase, Akosombo Market Square, and Atimpoku Lorry Station.

This campaign is a vital initiative that promotes constitutional democracy and encourages active participation in democratic governance.

By engaging with various groups and promoting peace, harmony, and tax payment, the Commission is contributing to the development of an informed and responsible citizenry.
