The man accused of killing Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, a late Member of Parliament (MP) for the New Patriotic Party’s Abuakwa North, Daniel Asiedu, has stated that the late MP’s mother and wife know more about his passing than he does. Asiedu added that the allegations made by the police and prosecution that he killed the MP “cannot be true.” He questioned why the late MP’s wife, mother, and kids—all of whom were in the house on the fateful day of the February 8, 2016 incident—were not asked to help the court.

Asiedu informed the seven-member jury panel and the Accra High Court, which was presided over Ghana Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, that he is innocent despite “some big people conniving to implicate me.” “My lady, I continue to defend my position that everything the police asserted in this court is untrue, as I have already stated to this court. Asiedu told the court, “And that those who were living in the house that were the deceased’s wife, her mother, and the children never mentioned in this court that they saw me.” It “was why none of them was brought before this court to testify,” he clarified.

JB Danquah is unknown to me. He informed the court that the investigator’s assertions that his finger and foot prints were discovered at the late MP’s home were untrue. “My lady, I must inform you that all of the testimony given by Mr. (Augustus) Nkrumah, the investigator, before this court is untrue. In all honesty, I, Daniel Asiedu, would never have seen JB Danquah if it weren’t for the photo they showed me.

He clarified, saying, “I have relied on the fact that I have never been to the said house (JB Danquah) before in this court.” “I have never been to the said house if it weren’t for the day that I was wounded on my head and led there with a gun,” Asiedu stated. Regarding the claim that he killed the MP by stabbing him with a knife, he stated that “it is not true.”

He went on to say, “I have never met or seen that lady before, except for the day I went to meet the prostitute or sex worker and also went to the police station to report that thieves had attacked the said lady.” They would have brought the aforementioned woman before this court to testify if it were true that she was my wife, but because that is untrue, she was not brought before this court to testify.

Asiedu defended his innocence in response to accusations made by the prosecution and police that “you (Asiedu) are the one and the only one who caused the violent death of JB Danquah.” “My lady, I continue to defend my position that everything the police asserted in this court is untrue, as I have already stated to this court. Asiedu told the court, “And that those who were living in the house that were the deceased’s wife, her mother, and the children never mentioned in this court that they saw me.”

It “was why none of them was brought before this court to testify,” he clarified. I’m not Sexy Don Don; I’m Gucci Young Star. When his attorney, Yaw Dankwah, asked him why he was being called “Sexy Don Don,” Asiedu said that Dampare, the current Inspector General of Police and previous Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, had given him the moniker. “I was given that name by Dampare. My nickname is Gucci Young Stare, and I have gone as Daniel Asiedu throughout my academic career. My name isn’t Sexy Don Don. For this reason, I don’t have a sultry tattoo of the “Gucci Young Star” on my body.

Prominent individuals conspired to accuse me. He claimed that he never killed the MP when asked by his attorney to help the jury and the court decide the case by providing all relevant data. “I, Daniel Asiedu, have no problems with anyone, and no one has wronged me by allowing me to take a knife and hurt someone,” he said, adding that “all the charges leveled against me are not true.” “I have no problems with anyone, therefore I walk freely. I was told at the time of the occurrence that the wife wanted to testify against the powerful individuals pursuing her husband’s life in order to implicate me, but they forbade her from doing so.

“The powerful individuals have conspired with their associates to link me to the entire story. I have no knowledge of JB Danquah’s passing. And based on the picture that was provided to me, I would be (falling) somewhere if he kicked me. I don’t know anything about his passing, and I haven’t visited the house,” Asiedu stated. Asiedu, who will not be calling any witnesses, has closed his evidence-in-chief and is being cross-examined by the prosecution, according to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent Murtala Inusah. The next sitting is scheduled for November 14, 2024.
