Ghanaian football fans have rallied behind Asante Kotoko‘s decision to boycott the Ghana Premier League, showing unwavering support for the club’s stance following the tragic death of their devoted fan, Yaw Frimpong, on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, met his untimely death during Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman at the Nana Konamansah Stadium in Nsoatre.

In a show of solidarity and a demand for justice, Asante Kotoko released a press statement on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, announcing their decision to boycott all football-related activities until further notice.

The club further stated that they would not resume football activities until justice is served in honor of their deceased fan.

This bold decision has received widespread support from Ghanaians, who took to social media to express their endorsement, praising Asante Kotoko for taking a stand.

Read some of the reactions below:

The message I have been waiting for all this while !!

Kudos management for being bold about this matter.

Boycotting all football activities until further notice is the right call and should be the way forward to seek justice for the memory of ‘Pooley’ who was a very huge…

Goosebumps, this is what a big club does

Stand on business and don’t fold. Flex your muscles as a mighty club you claim to be.

Lead the charge for the revolution we all want in our league.

Kotoko, throughout its history, has fought the status quo and its ills. I’m counting on you this time around too

A step in the right direction – Hats off to the management team. Hearts of Oak should follow suit. Rest in peace, Pooley!

    — Dom Agbakpe 🇬🇭 (@Dom91204346) February 4, 2025

It’s long overdue.I don’t understand why big clubs like Kotoko and @HeartsOfOakGH have allowed themselves to be belittled by these smaller clubs. Club of the 20th century of Africa paa..ahhh.

    I’m so angry and pained.

That’s good decision and way to go

GFA should go on and play their league for us to see
