Former Asante Kotoko star, Charles Taylor has cast serious doubt on the club’s chances of progressing in the CAF Confederation Cup, saying their upcoming clash against Wydad AC in Morocco will be “only for travel experience.”
Speaking in an interview with Angel TV, Taylor said it would be nearly impossible for the Porcupine Warriors to overturn their first-leg defeat when they face the Moroccan giants in Casablanca.
“Kotoko’s game against Wydad will only be for travel experience because most of the players haven’t really travelled that much. Morocco is a beautiful country, so they will use that opportunity to tour the country,” Taylor said.
Kotoko lost 1-0 to Wydad AC in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second-round qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

The return leg takes place on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Mohammed V Stadium, with kick-off at 19:00 GMT.
“It will be difficult for Kotoko to defeat Wydad. How will they be able to beat a team that can pay the salaries of all Ghana Premier League teams? If care is not taken, Kotoko can lose around three or four goals.”
“Zito can do all he can, but they won’t be able to pull this off. If any Kotoko fan has hope of qualification, that person should forget it,” he added.
Kotoko are aiming to reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in several years, but Taylor’s comments reflect the widespread skepticism about their ability to upset the North African powerhouse.
