Ghana Premier League giant Asante Kotoko have paid tribute to late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong following his demise.
The Porcupine Warriors expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and urged them to stay strong in such trying moment as they prepare for the funeral.

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of legendary gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, a staunch supporter of our beloved club. Our condolences go to his family in this difficult time,” Kotoko wrote on X on January 21, 2025.
The musician’s death was confirmed by artiste manager, Nana Poku Ashis, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Yaw Sarpong has been in the music industry for nearly five decades, releasing his first album, “Adesrede” in 1981.
He went on to compose various hit songs, including ‘Awurade Kasa,’ ‘Tie Obiaa,’ and ‘Wo Haw Ne Sen.’
He also founded the Asomafo gospel group, a group that shaped the sound and impact of Akan gospel music in Ghana and remains one of the most recognizable artistes the country has ever produced.
