Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has tipped England as favourites in Group L of the upcoming FIFA World Cup but remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances of progressing to the next round.

Ghana have been drawn in a competitive group alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England six days later in what is expected to be a key fixture.

Speaking in New York during the unveiling of Ghana’s World Cup jersey by PUMA, Gyan acknowledged England’s pedigree but stressed that Ghana’s priority is securing qualification from the group.

The former striker, who is Africa’s all-time leading scorer at the World Cup with six goals, expressed confidence in the current squad while also reflecting on his legacy. He encouraged the next generation of players to surpass his record, describing it as an achievement meant to be broken.

Gyan also highlighted his long-standing relationship with PUMA, praising the brand’s continued support for Ghana football since becoming the national team’s kit sponsor in 2008.
