Ghana’s former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, broke down in tears while interacting with fans during a live session on his Instagram page.

It remains unclear what triggered the emotional outburst, but the former Sunderland striker reminisced about his past experiences with the Black Stars while engaging with his followers.

The incident, which occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, December 2, 2025, saw Gyan praising some of his former teammates, including Prince Tagoe and Andre Ayew.

However, in a sudden turn of events, the 2010 BBC African Player of the Year was seen sobbing as he sang gospel tunes.

Gyan also issued a stern warning to fans and citizens, urging them to refrain from speaking ill of him, adding that there would be consequences for anyone who did so.

The retired striker remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances. His six goals at the FIFA World Cup make him the top-scoring African player in the tournament’s history.

In June 2023, Gyan officially retired from professional football after an illustrious 18-year career.
