Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Joseph “Bobby Short” Tagoe has disclosed that former Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan played a crucial role in helping him recover from a ‘spiritual’ injury.

Bobby Short, who was bedridden for almost six months, narrated that he suffered a leg injury and spent all his money seeking medical care, only to see no improvement.

He initially experienced a slight pain in his foot, which later became swollen, ultimately derailing his move to Mexico.

Speaking on the Gajio Podcast, he revealed that Asamoah Gyan, upon learning about his condition, took him to a spiritual healer, where he finally found relief.

“Asamoah Gyan then sent for me, and I was taken to a man who healed me,” he said.

When asked whether the condition was spiritual, he responded: “Yes. It wasn’t a matter for the hospital.”

He explained that the Black Stars‘ all-time top scorer learned about his situation after Baffour Gyan gave a friend GH¢500 to deliver to him.

While narrating how he suffered the injury, he said: “I felt a cut in my leg but didn’t take it seriously. My visa (for a move to Mexico) and documents were ready, but I was experiencing pain in my leg. I went to a doctor for an injection because I had only a week left before traveling. But right after the injection, I felt like I had swallowed a bone. The next morning, I noticed three marks on my leg, and that was it.”

“I became bedridden and couldn’t do anything. Before I realised, I had sold all my assets, including my cars, just to afford treatment,” he added.

Bobby Short is a Ghana Premier League cult hero, known for his unique diminutive stature and his time at Hearts of Oak.

He is regarded as one of the best dribblers to have played in the GPL in recent years.
