Asamoah Gyan, a former Ghanaian international, maintained that people with “personal interests” were behind the alleged rivalry between him and Andre Ayew.
When the two players were with the Black Stars, there were rumors that they had a tense relationship, which sparked speculation. When Gyan formally retired, Ayew took over as captain of the Black Stars, a move that was widely viewed as causing conflict, and things seemed to get worse.
However, Gyan dismissed these claims, attributing the so-called rivalry to external influences that he believes “brainwashed” Ayew.
“Andre is a good person. He genuinely cares for me, but he has been brainwashed because it benefits certain people. That’s what created the so-called rivalry. I am not in competition with anyone,” Gyan said during an Instagram live session on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The former captain touched on this topic and other issues during his candid remarks on the social media platform.
