Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has thrown his support behind new Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the Mundial after previously featuring in the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022 editions of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated competition, the former striker urged Ghanaians not to underestimate the Portuguese tactician due to his vast coaching experience at the highest level.

“With the arrival of a new coach, we shouldn’t look down on him. When you look at his CV and his experience, he is truly one of the best coaches out there,” Gyan told Channel One TV.

Queiroz has already announced his debut squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 as preparations intensify for the World Cup.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England and Croatia in the remaining group matches.
