Arsenal have moved to sharpen one of the most overlooked weapons in modern football by bringing in long-throw and throw-in specialist Thomas Grønnemark as part of their Premier League title push.

The league leaders are already the most dangerous side from set-pieces this season, having scored 14 goals from set pieces, more than any other team. However, one area still missing from their attacking armoury is the throw-in.

Despite the growing importance of well-drilled throw-in routines across the league, Arsenal are yet to score a single goal from a throw-in situation this season and are one of only five clubs without one since the start of last campaign.

That gap is what Grønnemark has been hired to fix. The Danish coach will work with Mikel Arteta’s squad on a part-time consultancy basis, focusing on improving how Arsenal retain possession, create space and generate scoring chances from throw-ins in the final third.

7 managers Manchester United have sacked since Ferguson departed

Grønnemark built his reputation during a highly successful five-year spell at Liverpool between 2018 and 2023, where he worked under Jürgen Klopp.

During that period, Liverpool won every major trophy available, and throw-ins became a key part of their attacking structure.

He then spent three seasons with Brentford, who have turned throw-ins into a genuine weapon. Since the start of last season, no Premier League club has scored more goals from throw-in situations than the Bees.
