Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Mikel Merino will undergo surgery in the coming days after sustaining an injury, the club announced in an official statement.

According to the statement, the Spanish international will begin a recovery and rehabilitation programme immediately after the procedure.

The Gunners revealed that Merino is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, dealing a blow to manager Mikel Arteta’s plans as the season enters a crucial phase.

However, the club remains optimistic that the 28-year-old will return to full training before the end of the campaign.

Merino’s absence will be closely monitored by Arsenal supporters, who have taken to social media to wish him a speedy recovery.

Both the club and fans alike will be hoping the midfielder makes a strong comeback in time to play a role in the season’s run-in.
