Armed robbers have attacked the team bus of Berekum Chelsea on the Bibiani-Goaso road, sadly killing one player, Dominic Frimpong, in the process.
The incident occurred on Sunday night as the team was returning to Berekum after their Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex. The players and officials were travelling overnight when their bus was ambushed in the Western North Region.
During the attack, 20-year-old Dominic Frimpong was shot and later died from his injuries.
The incident has sparked concern over the safety of clubs travelling long distances for domestic league matches. The attack took place several hours away from the capital, Accra.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the robbery as calls grow for improved security on major highways.
