New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful and former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has recounted a chilling experience in which he narrowly escaped death while on official duty.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on January 12, 2026, Dr Adutwum said the incident occurred during his tenure as Deputy Minister of Education, following a trip to Bolgatanga for a programme on the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
According to him, the event he travelled for eventually did not take place, however, it was on his return journey to Kumasi that he encountered grave danger.
He described the incident as one of the greatest personal sacrifices he made for the party and the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.

Dr Adutwum disclosed that near Buipe, their vehicle came under attack when armed, masked men suddenly emerged and opened fire.
“A group of armed, masked men suddenly emerged and opened fire on the vehicle,” he recounted.
He credited his survival to the swift and tactful response of his driver, whose quick manoeuvring enabled them to escape from the attackers.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum further disclosed that shortly after fleeing the scene, the vehicle’s tyres went flat, underscoring the severity of the situation they had just survived.
“I don’t know what the people wanted. I would have been dead if not for God,” he said.
