The GMX App was launched on October 30, 2024 The GMX App was launched on October 30, 2024

Scores of social media users have criticised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following the launch of the Ghana Music Experience (GMX) App.

Introduced on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in Accra, the streaming platform aims to promote Ghanaian music locally and internationally while ensuring fair compensation for all stakeholders in the music value chain.

The event brought together industry executives, musicians, policymakers, and media representatives.

However, the app and its launch have faced significant social media backlash, particularly on X.

Many Ghanaians have expressed frustration and scepticism regarding the timing and relevance of the app amidst the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

Critics have argued that focusing on digital initiatives like the GMX App is misplaced, given the pressing economic issues, and does little to address the nation’s fundamental problems.

These reactions come amid the launch of other apps, such as Go Ride, a ride-hailing service for taxi drivers, and Citizens App, all of which have faced harsh criticism from netizens.

    See the reactions below

So Bawumia ein digitalization all be apps?

No backbone, no infrastructure , no data centers, just flutter apps. 😂🤣

I know someone in a European country who paid for express and renewed her passport in 8 hours.

You will pay for express in Ghana and it will still take you 6 months, and 14 trips to the passport office

But Bawumia thinks digitalisation means ripping off existing apps

    — Ugo C. Shege (@enyonvm) October 31, 2024

What’s funny about all Bawumia’s app launching facade is that, most of the people present during the launching event cannot attach a PDF file to an email.

    — Abdul Hameed (@sayhameed) October 31, 2024

The apps launched by Dr Bawumia could be a scheme to loot funds from us. The apps are so abstract and solve no real time problem. He’s living in another Ghana.

    — #StopGalamseyNow (@ghanamunsemsem_) October 31, 2024

The fact that he’s launching apps with no proper foundations, infrastructure in place to ensure the success of these apps should tell us exactly what kind of person Bawumia is https://t.co/uyXkW3ETsL

    — Marilyn (@King_Sey_) October 30, 2024

First it was an app with no features, Now Music streaming plat. these African politicians some of us out here are wiser now. This Bawumia Guy go rubbish una, mark my words. https://t.co/767RXTP7NA

    — Manigha007 (@CManigha96261) October 31, 2024

Digitalization is not a problem Ghanaians are facing Bawumia, Shift this energy to the economy and fix it. we don’t have jobs so how do you want us to buy data to even download this music app. we need jobs not App.

    Vote Npp Out!

    — Aziz Mohammed (@caunaleshe1980) October 31, 2024

Very interesting, BAWUMIA should never be a president.

He is either empty headed or he has lost touch with reality.

The major problems of Ghanaians are unemployment issues as well as higher inflation yet this LIAR is just talking about app

    Such nonsense!

    supreme court

    — JessicaKline (@jessica_kl39667) October 31, 2024

How you fit watch all the nonsense going in this country, with the economy and inflation reducing our purchasing power—driving us into poverty with each passing day, and you think a stupid ride hailing app is what’s gonna help this country?

Bawumia is a fuckin moron, Jesus!

    — Khal Frodo (@aFb0rda_) October 31, 2024

We are facing economy problems and Bawumia is busy launching music app. Will the app put food on our table? The exchange rate now has collapsed many businesses and this economic messiah is using digitalization to cover his shame and failure. We need a sound leader like JM to lead

    — KirkBufford (@deoreemista1982) October 31, 2024

Is this man serious at all.. Ghanaians are bitterly complaining about the economy and the best thing you could do is to launch music app without any proper data backings, no infrastructures. Are we going to eat music?

Your just a failure. Vote Bawumia Out!
