Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has called on President John Dramani Mahama to give serious attention to the creative arts sector in the country, describing it as the’soul’ of the country.

In an interview with Joy FM, Akofa Edjeani lamented the neglect of the creative arts industry by politicians, warning that this could be detrimental to the country’s progress.

“Film and theatre are essential to the growth of any nation, so we must prioritise the creative sector. It’s how you set your foundation right because, without culture, you are nothing. That is the soul of any nation. But too often, we are detached from it. We place arts and culture aside while focusing on other things, and that’s not how it should work,” she emphasised.

The actress also called for a comprehensive roundtable discussion to reset and rebuild the sector, aligning it with the president’s vision for national development.

She further urged the President to appoint individuals who understand the socio-economic impact of the arts, stressing the importance of rebranding and ensuring growth in the sector.

“This time around, we should have a serious roundtable discussion to set things straight. Let’s reset and rebuild as the President is saying. If he is serious about that, then he should appoint the right people—those who understand the impact of the arts, the socio-economic benefits it brings, and how it can contribute to growth, employment, and overall well-being,” she added.

As President Mahama prepares to announce his ministers, particularly for the tourism, arts, and culture sector, netizens are speculating that the appointments could include the likes of Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Sadiq Abdulai Abu, and Rex Owusu Marfo.
