he outrage over Jamie Carragher’s comments on the Africa Cup of Nations seems never-ending, as former Black Stars defender Samuel Osei Kuffour, has joined the growing chorus of critics condemning him.

Despite recognising Salah’s brilliance during a punditry moment, Carragher stated that the Egyptian would need to win the Champions League to have a shot at the Ballon d’Or, as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is not considered a major tournament by the voters.

These comments have sparked outrage among fans and especially some former footballers, who deemed it disrespectful to the tournament.

They have since launched scathing attacks on the former defender.

But speaking to Sporty FM, Kuffour called for Carragher to apologise to the people of Africa.

“Jamie Carragher has to apologize to all African people because the AFCON is not a normal tournament. Africa has given us the best of the best. Africa has produced a Ballon d’Or winner,” he said.

Other notable players who have rebuked Carragher’s claims include his ex-England teammate Rio Ferdinand.

Former Aston Villa and Egypt captain Ahmed Elmohamady also fired back at Jamie Carragher, saying the pundit doesn’t know what major tournaments are because he never won one.
