Residents of Anyaa in Accra have been experiencing acute water shortages for about a week following the locking of taps in the area.

The situation has forced residents to struggle to access water for basic domestic activities such as cooking, bathing and sanitary practices.

Madam Blessed Okan, a resident of Anyaa, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that households now move around with containers to purchase water from private tanker operators, a situation she said had negatively affected their time for economic activities and children’s school attendance.

Another resident, Madam Abena Owusu, said the lack of water supply from the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) had compelled families to rely entirely on private water vendors, whose charges were higher than their regular monthly water bills.

She noted that the high cost of water delivery had forced many households to make difficult choices between buying water and meeting other essential needs.

The GNA followed up to the Weija Treatment Plant, the primary source of water supply for the area, to report the situation.

Officials of the Ghana Water Limited at the plant assured that the issue would be investigated and addressed to restore supply to affected residents.
